Pedestrian Struck, Killed In Maryland Intersection Remembered As Beloved Friend

A community in Maryland is reeling after a popular 24-year-old electrician and businessman from Calvert County was struck and killed by a driver in Prince George's County.

Chesapeake Beach resident Austin McCollum has been identified by the Prince George's County Police Department as the pedestrian who died over the weekend near the intersection of Indian Head Highway and Old Fort Road in Fort Washington after being hit by a car.

The crash was reported at around 1 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, according to police. 

According to a department spokesperson, a driver - who remained in the area to assist with the investigation - was driving northbound on Indian Hill Highway when he struck McCollum, who was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

The crash remains under investigation.

Following his death, friends and family took to social media after the community was shell-shocked by news of his death.
